Reaching movie theaters just in time for the winter holidays, How to steal a wife has found a way into the hearts of viewers – more than 65,000 movie goers have already seen the warm and intimate comedy, and today the movie broke the symbolic LTL 1 million barrier.
Two weeks after the How to steal a wife premiere, this comedy’s popularity is not dwindling; even on the contrary – more and more people, having heard excellent responses from their friends and family, are rushing to the theaters. According to the filmmakers, the movie has received praise in various Lithuanian cities, and now the people in Vilnius, who were less frequent moviegoers over the holidays, are becoming more active.
“We’re really pleased that the theaters are still full to the brim for screenings of How to steal a wife. The continued viewer interest and large audience flows are like a silent acknowledgement that we did a lot of things right. That is undoubtedly the best holiday gift we could get. And, of course, that symbolic million is always a nice milestone,” said Donatas Ulvydas, the film director.
Producer Žilvinas Naujokas seconded him, adding that the movie, whose main characters were played by well-known actors such as Ramūnas Cicėnas, Giedrius Savickas, Rimantė Valiukaitė and Inga Jankauskaitė, is being shown outside of Lithuania as well. Norway’s Lithuanians will be able to see How to steal a wife on January 11th in Oslo, and Denmark’s Lithuanians – on January 23rd in Copenhagen. There is a chance that screening will be repeated in Chicago and London, and the Lithuanian community in Ireland is also planning on organizing a premiere of its own.
A bit about the comedy How to steal a wife
Unjustly accused of stealing a huge amount of money, former investment banking manager Valdas Bičkus (Giedrius Savickas) is released from prison. However, his wife (Rimantė Valiukaitė) did not waste time in vain, and another man (Ramūnas Cicėnas) is already wearing Valdas’ slippers back home. With 300 million litas mysteriously disappeared, three people unexpectedly find themselves under one roof, and are faced with domestic inconveniences and an old love who suddenly appears right before New Year’s… How can a mess like this turn out?
This movie, chock-full of comic situations, romance and both tasteful and salty jokes, is already being shown in Lithuanian theaters.
